is a type of mental illness, a somatoform disorder, wherein the affected person is exclusively concerned with body image, manifested as excessive concern about and preoccupation with a perceived defect of their physical features.[1][2] The person complains of a defect in either one feature or several features of their body; or vaguely complains about their general appearance, which causes psychological distress that impairs either occupational or social functioning, or both. Occasionally, BDD occurs to the degree of causing severe emotional depression and anxiety, and the possible development of other anxiety disorders, social withdrawal, orsocial isolation.[3]
This description of body dysmorphic disorder is what you would find if you are just poking around the internet, but I think it does a very poor job of describing the emotions of the person effected by the disease. I personally have this disease, and my emotions are a driving force in my art. It want to show the world through my work what it means to be in a body dysmorphic mind.
